Biography of Ruben van der Kleij
Multi-instrumentalist Ruben always wanted to play the trumpet. This is why he started playing at a local Marching band (Drumfanfare Haaglanden Pijnacker). After high school, he studied at the conservatory of Haarlem and got the degree Bachelor of arts; Pop/session musician Trumpet in June 2016. His trumpet teachers were Jan van Duikeren and Rob Balfoort. Ruben got the opportunity during his study to perform with national and international celebraties like Roel van Velzen, Waylon, Ntjam Rosie, Benjamin Herman, Ronald Snijders, Poogie Bell, Philip Lassiter, Jens Kluver and Berget Lewis.
He is a music teacher at RCL school of horns in Delft and Moz-Art Nieuwerkerk aan den Ijsel. He teaches various copper instrument like the trumpet, cornet, euphonium, trombone and also guitar and ukelele to both children and adults.
In the weekends and evenings, Ruben plays in a lot of bands, sometimes as substitute or for a period of a few weeks/months. Because of the diversity of his education and his previous experciences, Ruben plays in a lot of styles. He’s often asked to participate in a bigband, a classical ensemble or a DJ-gig but his focus lies mostly in the (pop)-band scene. In 2016 Ruben and co-founder Max Groenen developed the website: sheets4horns.com. On this website, horn sections can buy excellent non expensive arrangements. In 2018 Ruben and co-founder Marcel Joling started the music foundation 'Culture Quest'. They organize different projects on lower and high schools to bring music, dance and technology to the children. Fundamental in the lessons are innovation, talent development and cross-overs of different art forms.
Ruben plays a Schilke B1 Trumpet.
